Tip of the Month - Make it simple
It's been a while since I've had the time to pen a tip of the month. I've had a very busy summer with lessons and tournaments.

This game is such a challenge and never ceases to amaze me. I've been working on my swing changes for the past 4 years and am finally able to see the benefits of all my hard work.

Now, as Manuel de la Torre says... "make it simple, swing the club over your shoulder and to the target. Let your body respond to what you do with the club."

It sounds simple doesn't it? And it really is, if we don't complicate it by trying to figure out what our body is doing. The reality is, you need to control the club. Just as you swing a baseball bat or tennis racket, you must swing the golf club. Ask yourself, do I think about what my body is doing when I swing a bat or racket? Probably not. The same is true for the golf club. Unfortunately, golf has been taught backwards. I know I was taught to think about what my head, my arms, my hips, my shoulders and blah blah blah... were doing. It really is amazing that anyone sticks with this game. Please give yourself a chance and feel what you are doing with the club. Swing it over your shoulder and look at where the club is. Is it over your shoulder or is it over your head or upper arm?

Allow your body it's flexibility to respond to the motion of the club as it wants to. Then swing the club to the target and allow your body to respond to that motion. Remember to swing the club in a circle. You do not swing the club straight back, it goes in a circle over your shoulder, then to the target.

It's not about hitting the ball, but swinging the club. For more information and a visual, check out my dvd or Manuel's dvd and book "Understanding the Golf Swing".

I will try to update my site more regularly in the future. In the meantime, good luck and swing freely.
